Trail Ride Experiences

Liminal Equus Website Section Divider

Close your eyes and picture yourself meandering through the idyllic, mountain-framed grounds of an old 300-acre dairy farm located in the Blue Ridge Mountains. On each side you’re surrounded by some of the most stunning flora in the Eastern US, including goldenseal and spring ephemerals such as trillium, may apple, and ramps. As you make your way up and over the hills, hickory, walnuts, oaks, tulip poplars, and other mature hardwoods rise from the forest, towering high above. Next you come to 60 acres of barely touched pasture and four natural springs. Along the way you spot wild turkeys, deer, and other frisky local inhabitants.   You can hear the sound of  horse hooves  traveling through the trails, the sound of birds and squirrels playing in the trees.  You can smell the fresh air all around you as you take a deep breath, and you are fully present, and living in the moment.

This isn’t a fairy tale or movie scene: it’s the Trail Ride Experience.

The 2-hour, 2.5-mile horseback ride takes place on the Evans family farm in rural Barnardsville, NC. Lovingly referred to as “The Dairy,” the farm operated from the 1930s until 2008 and has a history almost as beguiling as the land it's on. (To boot: it used to sell milk to the famous Biltmore Estate!) Though just 25 minutes north of hip, brewery-soaked Asheville, the farm is guaranteed to transport you to a simpler, far more relaxed time.

The Trail Ride Experience

  • We’ll begin the trail ride by getting to know each other and our horses.

  • After that, I’ll briefly explain the ins and outs of horseback riding.

  • Whether you’re a seasoned rider or first-timer, a kid or a retiree, it doesn’t matter—anyone can do it.

  • Then we’ll be off, gaining 400 feet of elevation and a lifetime of memories.

As a longtime rider and horse enthusiast, I own and operate my business with the mission of giving my guests an unforgettable horseback riding experience; my faithful and friendly trail horses no doubt feel the same way. I am convinced that everyone can take something meaningful from mountain trail rides, whether it’s connecting with nature, enjoying a rare moment of solitude, or familiarizing themselves with the incredible equine world. My herd of eight keeps my rides intimate, resulting in a semi-private horseback riding experience designed to meet the needs of each rider.

Equine Yoga

Breathe, stretch, and meditate, all while on horseback for an unforgettable yoga experience.

It's likely that you've never felt the presence of mind and body that finding a calm balance on a bareback horse requires. Equine yoga is truly a one-of-a-kind experience that focuses on balance, flexibility, and building strength throughout your core, lower back, arms, and hips. As a Certified Equine Yoga Instructor, I will help you build a connection with your horse and lead you through a series of breathing, stretching, and meditation exercises.

EQUINE YOGA IS STARTING BACK UP SOON!  STAY TUNED FOR MORE UPDATES COMING SOON!

We typically practice equine yoga in partners, with one person on the ground, watching and keeping the horse steady (we call this being “The Horse Whisperer”) while the other person is mounted on the horse practicing yoga. Throughout the session, you’ll have an opportunity to play both roles.

Equine yoga is an incredible opportunity to deepen your connection with yourself, the horse, and mother nature. You'll come to notice how horses have an incredible capacity to mirror the humans they're connected to. Some guests have even felt moved to tears during this experience!

"This experience was amazing! Joy truly cares for her animals & is passionate about sharing their love with others. I was slightly hesitant about riding but Joy matched me up with just the perfect horse. What a great way to enjoy the beautiful mountains just outside of Asheville. Highly recommend this trip!”
